Former Auditor-General, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo, has described the handing-over note request by the Audit Services Board as preposterous, and has refused to obliged since his removal from office was illegal.
According to the letter sighted by Ghana Africa News, dated 16th March, 2021, signed by the Chairman of the Audit Service Board, Prof. Edward Dua Agyeman, the Audit Service requested that Mr. Domelevo, should prepare a comprehensive handing-over of the Audit Service to Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, who is acting as the Auditor- General.
In the letter, Mr. Domelevo was given a grace period of two weeks starting from the day of receipt of the letter, to complete the exercise.
In his response to the letter, Mr. Domelevo said the handing-over note request does not make sense, because he has been out of office for more than eight (8) months, thus don’t have any handing-over note to give out.
According to Domelevo, in his response letter, dated 17th March, 2021, the letter from the office of the President dated 29th June, 2020, requested him to hand over all matters relating to the Office of the Auditor-General to Mr. Johnson Akuamuah Asiedu, who has been in charge since 1st July 2020.
He said even though the notice given to him by President Akufo-Addo was short and unlawful, he prepared a handing-over note and handed over to the Acting Auditor-General on 30th June, 2020 and he has been in in charge for over 8 months now.
“When I resumed work on the 3rd of March, 2021, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu didn’t handover to me with the excuse that the handing-over note was not ready, and after 9pm of my resumption day, I received a letter from the secretary to the President requesting that I proceed on retirement”, he narrated.
Mr. Domelevo concluded that, if the Audit Service want a handing-over from him, then the Acting Auditor-General should be directed to handover to him then he can also handover to him.
Based on the response from Mr. Domelevo, it seems he is not ready to hand over any note to the Audit Service.
Many people are contemplating if this stands taken by Domelevo, may affect any incentive or after service benefits he is supposed to get from the Audit Service?
For now, we are waiting for the next action from the Audit Service and the Presidency regarding Mr. Domelevo Handing-over notes.
