The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Bagbin has sent a strong message President Akufo-Addo, stating that, the government 2021 budget will not be approved by parliament if Akufo Addo goes ahead to reduce the budget of Parliament and the Judiciary.
According to information reaching Ghana Africa News, on Monday, March 16, 2021, the President of Ghana, His Excellency President Akufo-Addo, in a letter signed by the executive secretary of the presidency, issued out directives to the Speaker of Parliament demanding a reduction in the budget of Parliament and the Judiciary, saying that, there is no money to cater for them.

This letter didn’t get down well with parliament, and the speaker of parliament has objected the decision of the President.
In a response to the letter, during the parliamentary debate on the 2021, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin said, Parliament and the Judiciary has a lot of work to do, hence their budget cannot be reduced a this will impede the execution of their functions. “The 2021 budget will not be approved by parliament if President Akufo-Addo goes ahead to reduce the budget of Parliament and the Judiciary”, he warned.
It seems the the Executive and the legislature are struggling to arrive at a consensus because the Speaker is from the President’s party. A lot of people are saying that, this hanged parliament will improve the democracy of the country, and the President cannot control the Speaker of Parliament as it has been in Ghana.

For now we are waiting if the President will rescind his decision to reduce the budget allocation for Parliament and the Judiciary, or still stand by it, receiving this response from the Speaker of Parliament.
