National Lottery Authority(NLA) Director-General, Samuel Awuku has engaged with celebrity influencers from the entertainment industry on ways to caution the public against lotto fraudsters and social media miscreants.
The event which took place on Tuesday, 28th September 2021 in Accra which included actors and musicians such as Jackie Appiah ,Praye Tietia, Stonebwoy ,Kwesi Arthur, Akrobeto, Lilwin, Bibi Bright, Dblack, Samini,Andy Dosty, Okyeame Kwame, Cwesi Oteng, Prince, Barima Sydney, Kalybos , David Osei among others.
According to the NLA, fraudsters use all available means including radio, television, newspapers and social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp to defraud unsuspecting people under the guise of providing them lotto numbers.
“Some of these lotto fraudsters and social media miscreants have set up Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media pages using pictures and names of the Director-General and Staff of NLA to defraud people. These fraudsters use clever tactics to convince the staking public to make Mobile Money Transfers to them in exchange for Winning Lotto Numbers” NLA said.
The NLA further cautioned the public against paying extra fees to Alpha Lotto via their point of sale terminals.
Speaking at the event, the recently-appointed boss of the NLA, Mr. Samuel Awuku charged celebrity influencers to create awareness against leaked lotto numbers misinformation.
“The National Lottery Authority(NLA) has not authorized nor appointed any individual or group of individuals to offer winning lotto numbers to the public. The lottery is a game of chance and it is very impossible to foretell winning numbers before draws because the outcome of draws is conducted in a very transparent manner which has always been open to the public for witnessing at 6:30 pm daily for original 5/90 and 7:30 am daily for NLA VAG Lotto except for Sundays and public holidays.”NLA said.
However, Sammy Awuku indicated that he understood the role of celebs and brand influencers in Ghana and wanted to tap into their wealth of experience when it comes to social media.
He further explained that lottery had changed a lot over the years and Ghanaians should stay away from people who claim to have ‘sure numbers’ from the ‘engine room’ of the NLA.
