Multiple award winning African rap artist, Michael Owusu Addo also known as Sarkodie has opened up about the springing up of new music talents across the continent and the competition if gives to him professionally.
Pausing to speak during his recent performance at BBC 1Xtra’s Afrobeats Concerto, the rapper admitted that the rise of new artistes puts him on his toes to diversify his skills to suit the latest trends.
“It puts me on my toes… and at the same time I have hope that what we built is going to be protected and it’s going to be there for a minute.

So I am super proud to see all these superstars, I know that even when I retire, Afrobeats is going to be alive. So big shouts to all, especially the superstars coming out from my hometown GH”, Sarkodie said.
The BBC 1Xtra Afrobeats Concerto was organised in collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra to mark 20 years of Radio 1Xtra’s contributions showcasing Black music and culture.
