American actor, Micheal Williams died of an accidental drug overdose,post mortem examination has shown.
Micheal Williams, 54, was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment on 6 September earlier this month.
In a statement provided by the medical examiner’s office, Williams’ death was specifically to be “acute intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine,” with the manner of death ruled an accident.
However ,Police sources said at the time that drug paraphernalia was found in Williams’s apartment.
During his career, Williams earned Emmy nominations for performances in HBO’s Bessie, The Night Of and Lovecraft Country.
Micheal Williams played the powerful African-American gangster Chalky White in” Boardwalk Empire”, an HBO series set in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the “Prohibition era of the 1920s”.
Williams’ colleagues remembered his special talent for bringing to his roles his own experience as a black man growing up in New York.
Williams won praises for his portrayal of Omar Little, a homosexual drug dealer at war with his rivals.
Other television roles that won Williams praise included characters he portrayed in Boardwalk Empire, Bessie and Lovecraft Country.
He also played Bobby McCray, the father of Antron McCray (Caleel Harris), who convinced his son to sign a false confession, in Ava DuVernay’s 2019 Netflix, When They See Us.
But Williams is arguably best known as racketeer Chalky White on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, appearing between 2010 and 2014, and as stick-up man Omar Little on HBO’s The Wire.
The actor was laid to rest in Pennsylvania on September 15.
