Actor turn politician, John Dumelo has made a bold statement by saying he can revive the defunct Komenda Sugar factory.
In a Twitter post sighted by Ghana Africa News.com, the actor who is also a farmer lamented about the lack of commitments from authorities to get the sugar factory running.
The actor, who is also a famer suggested that all he needs is the opportunity and mandate to execute his plans and make the sugar factory functional again.
According to John Dumelo, the sugar factory will be fully operational in just sixteen {16} months, if he is given the position as the manager of the sugar factory.
“I can revive the Komenda sugar factory if given the mandate. That factory will start producing sugar within 16 months {considering planting and harvesting of sugarcane}.
“The factory needs about 200,000 tons of sugarcane(pa) to operate at full capacity. We can do it!”, he wrote on Twitter.
The Komenda Sugar factory was originally built in 1964 but has been defunct for close to 30 years due mismanagement and technical difficulties.
On May 30th 2016, former President John Dramani Mahama commissioned the Komenda Sugar factory which was expected to boost economic activities in the area and creating over 7,000 jobs with the capacity of crushing 1,250 tonnes of sugar cane daily.
However, the Komenda Sugar factory was shut down in July 2016 after a few
test runs. It was scheduled for reopening in October but never opened.
