His Excellency President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi, President of Botswana has pleaded to the European Union, EU, to help Botswana to exit her upper middle income status.
President Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi made this request when he received a high level delegation from the EU headquarters in Brussels.
The delegation was led by Ms Rita Laranjinha, the European External Action Service – EEAS – Managing Director for Africa, Ms Sandra Kramer, EU International Partnerships (INTPA) Director for Africa and Mr Alessandro Mariani, EEAS Head of Division for Southern Africa.
The President expressed satisfaction with the EU’s programme, which he said is aligned with Botswana’s priorities in various areas such as Botswana’s Vision 2036 which will see the country transition from a resource based economy to a knowledge based one.
“We want to urge that you help us pay special attention on those efforts that would yield an exit out of our upper middle income status, which is where many countries find themselves in,” President Masisi said as he assured Botswana’s commitment to transformation.
The delegation, which arrived yesterday, 8TH October, 2021, is on a two-day visit and has held a series of meetings with different role players in, government, SADC and the civil society.
The meeting was held at the Cabinet room, Office of the President.
