It was a very sunny and hot Saturday when Ali received a phone call from a strange number. The young man has been on a job hunt for 8 months and he is on the verge of giving up on his career dream. For the past months, Ali has moved from one office to the other in search of a job and has applied for many jobs online in a quest to make a living. Ali is a First Class graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. He was adjudged the overall best student in their year group with several recognition and awards.
He was seen by his mates on campus as a young man with a brighter future. Some even call him the hope of Nigeria, because of his exceptional intelligence. The phone call he received was from a multinational company, a job he has applied for over a month. During the phone conversation, a young lady announced an invitation for a job interview with him. This is like the 43rd Job interview for Ali from the over 80 jobs he has applied. For him, it wasn’t anything new, compared to the 42 interview invitations he has previously received.
He accepted the invitation and started preparing for the interview which was on next Monday. He did all his research about the organization and read widely. On that fateful Monday, he arrived at the company premises earlier than all the other candidates. They were about 25 but there were only 10 slots for the candidates. Everyone had their turn successfully, and based on the company arrangements, after all the interviews; the selected candidates were announced immediately. So all candidates had to wait until the end of the interviews to know whether selected or not. At about 18:00hr, the results were announced. Guess what, Ali wasn’t part again, hmm.
You know something, when you are rejected by someone or a group or even an organization, it’s not always about you or your fault. It doesn’t mean you are dumb, not beautiful or handsome, or you are a bad person. Most of us start to think that we are not good or it’s because of our wretched background that’s why we are rejected. No! It’s not always about you when you experience rejection. When there is a beautiful lady you heartily want to be with, but she turns down your proposal, it doesn’t mean you are not handsome or you are bad. Or maybe a guy you have been with says, hey I want a breakup. It’s not about you. It may be that you are too good for them and they can’t handle your sparkling personality. Or you are too good for the organization that’s why they didn’t select you because some organizations see such people as threats and they can’t control you.
You see, in all the jobs Ali applied for; the organizations have their own personal specifications. This is the kind of personality and type of person they need. It’s about what they want and not necessarily about who you are because you will definitely get your ‘size’. There are many organizations out there that are also desperately searching for your type of personality and intelligence. There is a guy or lady out there with whom you are their dream man or woman. With size, I mean what best fit you.
There are some jobs that don’t really fit you but because of desperation and frustration, you just want to get it. Or there are women or men out there that are not your ‘Size’. They may be lower or higher than you based on their personal specifications but due to desperation, you want them. Sometimes that’s the meaning of rejection. But what you need to understand is that ‘Every shoe gets Size’. I haven’t seen a shoe without a size before. This means you will definitely get your size of whatever you are looking for. Whether a job, relationship, friendship, organization, etc, you will get your best fit. You just have to keep searching. Remember, you just need to get it right once, and before you get that one right, you have to search through many.

Presently, Ali is a lead engineer in one of the world’s leading solar energy manufacturing companies in Paris, France. He called me recently and we laughed about the old-days job hunting experiences, hahaha. You see, that’s Ali’s size. Sometimes you may be even bigger than the job you are applying for that’s why you didn’t get it but you don’t know. Or you may be bigger than that lady you are proposing to and she keeps rejecting you. Or much way bigger than that guy you want to be with but he broke up with you. Whenever you get a rejection, that is not the end, just keep searching, because you will get your size. Always remember that every shoe get size.
