Even though a power outage schedule for some selected regions has been issued, Mr. Jonathan Amoako-Baah, Chief Executive officer of Ghana Grid Company, GRIDCO, has strongly asserted that ‘dumsor’ can never come back as purported by many.
It would be recalled that, on Monday, 15th March, 2021, GRIDCO released a schedule requesting the Electricity Company of Ghana Ltd, ECG, to interrupt power supply for 5 days in some selected regions such as Volta and Oti regions.
According to the schedule released, ECG is to interrupt power supply from today, 18th March, to 21st March, 2021 in the selected regions.
The power outage request explained that, this request is to enable GRIDCO undertake repair works on their transfomer that supplies power to both Volta and Oti Regions through the 69 KV transmission line from the Aslekpe Bulk Supply Point.
Well, with these plans and schedule, many people have started fretting, pointing that ‘dumsor’ is back again.
In an interview on ‘The Point of View’, on Citi TV, monitored by Ghana Africa News, Mr. Amoako-Baah said a lot of people don’t understand what ‘dumsor’means and tend to attribute any power Supply outage to mean it.
According to him, when there is a power outage schedule for the purpose of maintenance and repair reasons, it is not ‘dumsor’. “We need to put off the power just to make the system and supply better”, he explained.
He said even though ECG is owing GRIDCO, efforts are being made to pay the debt in an installment basis.
On the issue of whether ‘dumsor’ is back or not, Mr. Amoako-Baah affirmed that, there is no way ‘dumsor’ can be back in Ghana again as GRIDCO has been equipped with the State-of-the-art technology.
