One person has been confirmed dead, with ten others sustaining high degrees of wounds after an MMT (Metro Mass Transit) bus crashed with a Toyota Corolla car on the Accra-Cape Coast highway.
The accident happened on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Ekumfi Ekwamkrom junction.
According to reports the commercial bus with registration plate GS 2614-17 was travelling from Accra from Takoradi whiles the Toyota Corolla with registration plate GV 22-14 was also heading to Mankessim from Accra.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla car involved in the accident died on the spot.
“Our driver really tried his best to avoid the Corolla, but it was quite impossible. If not for the Metro Mass Transit bus, we would have all died.”
“My friends and I were seated here when the incident happened. We realised the Corolla was speeding. So when it made the sharp curve, it could not apply the brake on time.” an eyewitness said to reporters about the cause of the deadly incident.
Injured survivors of the accident were taken to the Mankessim Roman Catholic Hospital for treatment whiles the body of the deceased has been kept for preservation and autopsy at the Saltpond mortuary.
